In the morning, we were able to eat breakfast by the pool at the hotel. There was delicious fresh bread, flan and blood orange juice! Then we went to Isola Bella, which isn't actually an island, to swim in the sea. The beach was very rocky, but the water was perfect temperature. Ciro and Rosario also swam at the beach! After Isola Bella, we had lemon and black berry granite (gruh-nee-tuh), which is similar to water ice, at a small stand near the funicular station. We also ate some delicious fresh figs! The woman who made the granite just used produce out of her own garden and had a very tiny stand, but it was so good, and you could tell it was homemade. Then we drove to the small hillside town of Savoca. We walked around and Mike went into the church and the bar that was in The Godfather.
The town was basically built onto the side of a cliff and it had a really great view. This was the first of many hillside towns we went to. We returned to Taormina, and tried some delicious Arancini (big fried rice balls with cheese and other stuff inside). We also had some Fanta, and I remembered how delicious it is. We returned to the hotel, and had a few minutes to go for a swim in the pool before we got ready to go out again. We visited a nearby park and then walked around the Greek-Roman theater. We realized that we probably heard a concert that was going on there from our balcony the previous night. Then, we drove to Castelmola and saw some pretty views of Taormina, visited some small cats, and went to the Bar Turrisi for a drink. The decor at the bar was surprising! I got an Aperol Spritz and mike got a negroni. We also walked around the town a bit, it was a very tiny town on top of a mountain, and everything was very close together. We met a couple of stray cats up there that were very cute! Then we went back to Taormina and got dinner at Ristorante La Zagara. I got gnocchi with pesto and red prawns and Mike got salmon ravioli. We made friends with some people from Melbourne, Australia and spent most of our dinner talking to them about politics and the differences between American and Australian culture. After we finished eating, we exchanged email addresses and then Mike and I went to Bam Bar for some delicious almond and peach granite with panna on top. It was very hectic, as it was late and they had stopped table service. Mike and another confused Italian man figured out how it worked and was able to get some from the hectic crowd that had formed in front of the bar. There were I think 30 different parties that were all crowded around the bar for service, and he had to order in Italian (the first of many times). Then, we went to La Giara, which is a very fancy looking club. We each got a drink and did some people watching. There weren't a whole lot of people dancing, but there was a private event upstairs. For some reason our drinks were slightly discounted. We went back to the hotel and went to bed.
