Saturday August 19

Woke up, decided the elevators in the hotel were very twin peaksy and creepy (read: there were red curtains and it felt old) and got breakfast. Decided the hotel was twin peaksy in general. There was also an abandoned building out front, and we stopped and Mike got out and took some pictures of it when we were leaving, and we heard some poeple inside, and it turns out some Italian children were exploring in the building. We totally freaked them out. We drove to Chinciano and walked around for a bit. Then went to Multipulciano, and drove around some switchbacks until we found parking. Tuscany is so beautiful. You can see very far from these hill side towns. We visited a cathedral and then visited Talosa, a winery, for a tasting and a visit to the cellar. We ate some delicious Pici (local handmade spaghetti) with wild boar ragù and a caprese salad at E Lucevan Le Stelle. We visited another wine cellar. There are a lot of torture museums in this part of Italy for some reason. We walked around the town a bit more and then drove to somewhere between Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia, which ended up being us parking in a field and walking half a mile to see some a beautiful old church, called Capella della Madonna di Vitaleta. It was very remote and very picturesque. There was an abandoned house next door. We then visited San Quirico d'Orcia and walked around. We went into an art gallery, split a beer at a very Italian brewery, and checked out the Piazza. Then, we drove to Siena and checked into the hotel. We walked pretty far and then ate dinner close to the square. The couple at the table next to us ordered the exact same dinner as us! They were actually kind of sitting at our table, but we were separate parties. I got wider flat noodles in a cream sauce with truffles and Mike got Pici with wild boar ragu. We split a tiramisù, which was the best one we had in Italy, I think. Then we got a drink at Philadelphia Bar, which was a gross dive bar that felt like the Italian version of a bar we would see at home. Even the bartender seemed very Philly to us, despite her having never been to Philadelphia. We also split a drink at the Bella Vista Social Pub, which was a Cuban themed bar a few blocks down. We checked out the main square and then went back to the hotel to go to bed. It was such a long walk!

This was our view from our window at the hotel.
